Architecture is something I have always had a fondness for since childhood, even if my younger self barely understood anything about it. Still, it never stopped eight-year-old me from proclaiming that I would become an architect one day…
Handlin’s American Architecture provides an interesting overview of America’s most notable architecture, alongside a history of designs and pretty illustrations. It seems to be quite word-heavy, so definitely make sure you have an interest in the subject before you consider picking it up!
Fortunately, I do have an interest, even if I’m no designer or structural engineer. This strikes me as a work of sheer passion; a book for by a fanatic architect and Harvard lecturer for fellow fanatics, or simply just fans of architecture and the history surrounding it in the USA.
I am pretty hopeful that I’ll find the willpower to sit down and get through American Architecture‘s detailed and complex contents in the future. At the very least, it seems like a book one can pick their favourite architectural subjects out of and read at their own pace or preference.
