Book of the Week #54

|

Another poetry collection this week, with Patti Smith’s slim and semi-autobiographical assortment of poems featured in her 1992 compilation Woolgathering.

And when I say ‘slim’, I truly mean it, as this collection only features eleven prose poems. Despite this making it rather poor value for money, I think the fact that Smith composed these pieces whilst living in Michigan (and away from most of the public and attention) gives it a worthwhile glimpse into her life and mindset.

Although I am not at all familiar with her work as a singer, I think anyone who is fond of her music career, or her various books, may enjoy indulging in her condensed poetry collection to peer into her thoughts and emotions.

Besides, if that does not entice you, the cover of this particular edition is very lush and beautiful, almost like clouds or wool itself. It brings a serene and pastoral air, which will hopefully be evoked, in some way, across a few of the Michigan-focused poems inside.
