Monthly Book Haul (March ’24)

|

I thought it would be interesting to give an insight into books I’ve bought throughout each month (at least the months when I do purchase new books… my collection is extremely large and is mostly unread).

I considered posting my hauls a long time ago, but I held off because I felt it was more fun to keep some mystery around what books I would be reviewing in the near future. Now I have about 150+ unread books, so I’ll keep the lot of you guessing about what is or isn’t the next review.

Anyway, here is March’s haul!

Brave New World by Aldous Huxley

Dystopian fiction that goes very far into a different world can sometimes put me off, but it may also encapsulate my attention if pulled off correctly. The question is, will this novel do enough to pull me into its world?

Regardless of what it does, I do need to read more dystopian works and stretch beyond my usual assortment of literary and historical fiction. I now have this Huxley novel and Atwood’s The Handmaid’s Tale to get through, so that’s enough on my dystopian platter.

The Road by Cormac McCarthy

Much like dystopian, I don’t read nearly enough post-apocalyptic works, so this will hopefully get me better involved in the genre.

I have also never read any of McCarthy’s work, but I’m familiar with some films based on his work, particularly No Country for Old Men (which I should also read!). Either way, fictional tales of survival and the last embers of humanity are always enthralling when they stay grounded and reasonable in what they aim to do. McCarthy seems like a good author.
