Book of the Week #63

|

Last week I covered a book set in the 1960s, so let us go even further back and look at a novel set in the 1920s for this edition of Book of the Week.

Lucy Steeds The Artist focuses on three main characters: an enigmatic and reclusive artist, a young journalist who wants to write about said artist to get his big break, and the artist’s niece who carries a secret.

Set in Provence, it is no surprise that this novel seems to swell with emotions and be imbued with a romantic flair. From the element of a ‘secret’ being part of the story, I suppose one could also categorise this as part of the mystery genre, fuelled by the reclusive nature of the artist character.

At around 300 pages, it does seem a touch lengthy compared to most fiction I read nowadays, but I suspect it will be well worth taking my time with every page of this seemingly fantastic debut work.

All in all, I am quite eager to pick this one up, and think anyone interested in literary fiction should look into it. Here is hoping that it lives up to expectations.
