Book of the Week #64

|

I got into cycling back in 2021, and although my cheap bicycle has started to fail me over the past years, I still enjoy the activity. It keeps you fit, gets you outdoors, and is not a bad way of getting around, even in the countryside.

Coincidentally, 2021 is also the same year DK Eyewitness published Ride: Cycle the World, which is this week’s spotlighted book. (Yes, another non-fiction, travel-centric one after Lonely Planet’s Epic Road Trips of the Americas a few weeks back.)

This roughly 250-page-long book seems like the perfect thing for any cyclist, whether casual, dedicated, or professional. It details advice around cycling and what bicycle to select, alongside serving as a guide to tens of cycling journeys across North America, Central and South America, Europe, Africa, the Middle East, Asia, and Oceania. Plus, like many of DK Eyewitness’ works, it appears to include some great photography.

I have kept my eye on this book for some time now. It certainly is niche, and that is likely upheld by the online discourse, and rather public disliking of, cyclists in places like the United States.

Still, for those of us who ‘hog the roads’ and need to learn to ‘pay some bloody tax’, I think this is a great-looking book and remain excited to read it someday.
